Music for Pleasure and/or ABRSM examinations in Guitar, Piano and Theory Tuition
Hi, I love teaching piano and guitar to all ages! I live in Redbridge and usually pupils travel to me. For younger pupils, I use various reward incentives to encourage the discipline of practice. I am always very happy to discuss progress with parents and provide clear notes of what has been achieved in the lesson and what to focus on in the next. I believe my strengths are connecting to my pupils as individuals and preparing students to do their very best in ABRSM exams. I teach ABRSM music theory along side their instrumental tuition and prepare advanced pupils for ARSM. I also thoroughly enjoy teaching music just for pleasure to both children and adults. One of my adult pupils started to play the piano during a season of depression in her life. She has made a full recovery and has continued to enjoy weekly lessons for several years. My experience working in primary schools as a class teacher, assistant headteacher and music specialist has enabled me to connect with a diverse community. It has also given me a great deal of patience and humour! I look forward to meeting you! Over 20 years of teaching classical piano and guitar.

11/06/2024 at 17:53Julie is a fantastic musician. She was my piano teacher for over 10 years and also my guitar teacher for a short time. Her kindness and patience are real assets in her teaching style and made me look forward to attending lessons. Julie’s diligence in preparing for my piano exams is something I really valued, which improved my confidence and helped me pass. Julie has made piano very enjoyable for me and I still play the piano now even in my mid 20’s. I am even thinking of restarting lessons so I can get my fingering right for new pieces I’m learning!

Helpful ReviewLearning an instrument is such a valuable skill, it can change your whole life. This is why it’s so important to find the right teacher.
I was lucky enough have been put in touch with Julie, who is truly a brilliant teacher!
She took me on and taught me right from he very basics all the way to Grade 7, before I left for University.
I hope that that I’ll be able to return to lessons and get to finish Grade 8 with her at some point too. I wouldn’t have lessons with anyone else!
Thank you so much,
Arron

She has a kind and gentle nature and was incredibly patient with me as I was learning. I am still playing piano to this day at the age of 24 because of all Julie taught me.

11/10/2022 at 17:57Julie taught my three children guitar and/piano. They each had a different learning style and motivation. Julie took each one where they were at. She was encouraging, patient, calm and professional and challenged them appropriately. None of them had any fear or anxiety about their lessons. I am grateful for her manner and flexibility.

Helpful ReviewI had the pleasure of watching her teach music to groups of children. I was always amazed at how she managed to engage her pupils, who would aptly imitate her poised manner, listen well and progress so much during her lesson.
I would highly recommend Julie.

11/04/2021 at 13:55Julie is currently teaching our two daughters, one she is preparing for Grade 8 and the other Grade 7 exams. She is a very helpful piano teacher who really hones in on technique, resulting in great improvement. She is also very particular about fingering which results in a fluid performance. Both of our daughters thoroughly enjoy their lessons.

11/08/2020 at 11:57Julie was teaching Classical Guitar to my daughter from the age of 8 for over 10 years. She is an excellent teacher who really goes over and above the expected – my daughter loved going to her guitar lesson. Julie is extremely proficient at playing the instrument herself and really knows how to engage and motivate a child/young person to practise consistently. She also understands the examination process and knows how to prepare and help the student to not just pass but to perform really well at the music exams. I can totally recommend her.
